Ícone is the ultimate expression of Herdade do Peso. Respecting time and nature, it is only produced in exceptional years, with 2018 being only the third edition of this wine. Authored by Luís Cabral de Almeida, it represents his in-depth knowledge of the Alentejo region, more specifically of Vidigueira, its vineyards and grapes. It is the result of a passion and commitment to producing quality, gastronomic and authentic wines, true to their origins.
Bottled in 2020, it brings together the best Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional and Petit Verdot grapes and is powerful, but with an elegance and complexity that only nature can create, with the 12 months of ageing in 3000 litre French oak barrels also contributing to this.

The story

The past three decades have seen the Guedes family and Sogrape developing Herdade do Peso, a leading wine estate in Vidigueira, Alentejo, and putting into practice the wealth of knowledge they have gained in the process. Today, Herdade do Peso is one of Sogrape's brands. It has an excellent reputation and ambitions to reveal the best the Alentejo has to offer to the world.

Herdade de Peso is a dream come true for Fernando Guedes, son of the founder of Sogrape. From the very beginning, he dared to make a different wine in the fiercely traditional and set-in-its-ways Alentejo. The journey began in 1992 when their intrepid Sogrape spirit led them to create a red wine in a land where whites predominated. In 1997, they reaffirmed their commitment by acquiring the property and beginning the construction of the winery.

Viticulture and oenology work together to identify the soil characteristics of each plot and to select the most suitable grape varieties and clones. Early on, they invested in resource conservation by building a 20-hectare dam to store rainwater. From 2010, they consolidated their commitment with an oenological team dedicated to the project, led by winemaker Luís Cabral de Almeida. Partial replanting followed, and they now have 160 hectares of vineyards.

In 2022, they completed the new winery and are now enjoying the visible progress of the 42 hectares of recently planted vineyards.
