Quinta do Crasto

Located in a prime position within the Douro Demarcated Region, Quinta do Crasto has been owned by the family of Leonor and Jorge Roquette for over a century. As is often the case with the great Douro estates, its origins go back many centuries — the name "Crasto" comes from the Latin castrum, meaning Roman fort. Covering a total area of 135 hectares, 74 of which are planted with vines, this iconic estate is now managed by the family’s fourth generation.

Tokaji Aszú – A Wine of Kings and Popes

The golden age of Tokaji Aszú wines spanned the 17th to 19th centuries, when they were served in the great courts of Europe. Louis XIV famously called it “the wine of kings, the king of wines.” The Russian Czars were known to consume it in great quantity. And when Empress Maria Theresa sent a gift of Tokaji to Pope Benedict XIV, he is said to have declared: “Blessed be the land that grew you, blessed the woman who sent you, and blessed am I who drinks you.” Catherine the Great, Frederick II of Prussia, Napoleon III, Goethe, Schubert, Beethoven and Liszt are just some of the great names who celebrated this remarkable wine.
