The story
Amid its 1600 hectares, Herdade do Sobroso merges its wine production with the pleasures of its surroundings and nature, operating as a leisure centre. Located in Vidigueira, Alentejo, Herdade do Sobroso is bordered by the Mendro mountain range to the north, the River Guadiana to the east and to the south is a vast plain that stretches as far as the eye can see.
It is here, amongst the harmonious geography that the rich land has settled and it is within these surroundings that the winery is found.
Sofia Ginestal Machado and Filipe Teixeira Pinto were still studying Zootechny and Oenology when Sofia's father, architect António Ginestal Machado decided to acquire the property. The future path of the young couple clearly set at an early stage as together they developed the project - Herdade do Sobroso Wine & Country House.
The project has bonded wine production, in one of the most extensive vineyards in all Alentejo, with the prospective of a space of architectural quality, to become a dynamic component in the region.
Located in a single terroir, next to Guadiana River banks, DOC region of Vidigueira, the predominat red grape varieties are Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Trincadeira, Alfrocheiro and Petit Verdot, while the white wines come from Antão Vaz, Arinto, Alvarinho, Verdelho and Perrum varieties.
Herdade do Sobroso wines, intense and elegant, with an aromatic complexity and natural freshness, are a result of our respect for Nature and the unique terroir of their vineyards on the banks of the River Guadiana, in the DOC Vidigueira region.
